Presenting Research at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair

The Archimedes Research Unit, part of the Athena Research Center, Greece, participated in this year's 89th Thessaloniki International Fair, which took place from September 6 to 14, 2025.

On Saturday, 13 September, from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, at the Ioannis Vellidis Convention Center, stand 7 Amphitheater (ground floor), within the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation pavilion of the Hellenic Ministry of Development, Georgios Moschovis who is an Academic Fellow at the Archimedes Research Unit, Athena Research Center, Greece, and a PhD student at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), Greece, gave a presentation title "An Image speaks a Thousand Words (in Medicine as well)."

Abstract: We present the methods developed by Archimedes Research Unit/AUEB NLP Group for medical image tagging, as well as automatically generating a diagnostic text from a set of medical images. Towards this objective, the first step is concept detection, which boils down to predicting the relevant concepts (tags) for medical images, whereas the end goal is caption generation. This demo is based on the best approaches developed by Archimedes Research Unit/AUEB NLP Group during its participation in the 9th edition of the ImageCLEFmedical Caption (concept Detection and Caption Prediction subtasks), but also as part of our collaboration with the Echocardiography Lab of the "Papageorgiou" General Hospital of Thessaloniki. In addition to the above presentation, on Tuesday, 9 September, from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, at the Amphitheater in Pavilion 7, stand 1, Odysseas Chlapanis presented "How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Access to Greek Legislation."

Abstract: The Archimedes Research Unit of the Athena Research Center, Greece, is working to improve access to legal information through artificial intelligence. We introduce GreekBarBench, a unique framework for evaluating LLMs on Greek legal reasoning. Based on our findings, we developed Eureka, an AI-powered chatbot designed to assist with legal queries in Greek. Eureka provides citizens with clear answers to their legal questions, backing them up with direct references to official legislative documents. Together, GreekBarBench and Eureka are a first step toward changing how Greek citizens can access and understand their country's laws.
