Pieris Kalligeros
PhD student (AUEB) & Academic fellow
Athens University of Economics and Business
Short Bio
Pieris holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), where his thesis explored Generative Flow Networks (GFlowNets) for compositional 3D generation. Prior to that, he studied Computer Science (BEng) at the University of Edinburgh and Biosystems Engineering (MSc) at Wageningen University & Research. He has extensive industry experience as an AI & Computer Vision Engineer, working on training and optimization of deep learning models and developing software for large-scale deployment of real-time video analytics pipelines.
Research Interests
Pieris' research interests focus on generative modelling for proteins using Protein Language Models (PLMs). He aims to develop conditional, Multimodal generation methods — combining protein sequence, structure, and text — and to apply Mechanistic Interpretability to better understand what these models learn about protein function. His work targets tasks such as function prediction and protein editing, with the broader goal of building more controllable and interpretable systems for protein design.
