Ms. Pitoura serves as a Professor at the University of Ioannina. She received her degree in Computer Electronics and Informatics Engineering from the University of Patras in 1990 and her postgraduate studies were completed at Purdue University, USA (M.Sc and Ph.D in Informatics, 1993 and 1995, respectively). In 1997 she was elected Lecturer of the Department, in 2001 Assistant Professor, in 2006 Substitute Professor and in 2013 Professor. Her research interests are in Databases, Distributed Systems and Heterogeneous Computing. Her current research focuses on responsible data management. She has served on the editorial board of leading journals and has participated in various roles at major conferences in data management (including the position of PC Chair of ICDE 2012 and General Chair of EDBT 2023). She is the recipient of three Best Publication Awards, a Marie Currie Fellowship, and two ACM Service Recognition Awards. She is a senior member of ACM, chairman of the Greek ACM-W event coordination committee and member of the scientific board of the National Research, Technology and Innovation Council of Greece.
