Experiential Workshop Series in Modern Greek in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Resources and Tools
The Archimedes Unit of the Athena Research Center, Greece is pleased to announce a new series of experientialworkshops on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language, focusing on their contribution to and interaction with linguistic sciences.
Today, the continuous progress in the field of AI reveals language as a privileged field of economic activities and has a decisive impact on science. For this reason, we consider it essential for students and teaching staff of Humanities & Social Sciences Departments to become familiar with modern technological developments.
The experiential workshops have been specifically designed for participants with minimal or no previous experience in cutting-edge technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore practical applications of AI in speech transcription and text analysis, experiment with modern language processing tools, and understand the basic operating principles of language models that are shaping the future of their field.
Through initiatives such as this particular workshop series, the Archimedes Unit supports young people in Greece, especially young women, in their efforts to take advantage of the career opportunities created by the interaction between language sciences and AI.
Scheduled Dates and Locations:
- May 6, 2025: Democritus University of Thrace, Greece
- May 15, 2025: National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece
- June 14, 2025: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
The workshops have opted for a balanced approach to theory and practice. Participants will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of AI and Natural Language Processing, focusing on neural language models and large language models. Practical applications in linguistic analysis will be explored, such as speech-to-text conversion, automatic morphosyntactic analysis, automatic text categorization, and the use of large language models in lexicography and translation.
