ARCHIMEDES joins the fun at the 2024 Athens Science Festival!
ARCHIMEDES, the AI and Data Science Research Hub at ATHENA Research Center, was thrilled to be part of the 2024 Athens Science Festival (ASF). With over 15,000 visitors and 8,000 students, the festival provided the opportunity for young and old, schools and families, and hundreds of visitors to explore science through fun, innovative, and interactive ways.
Constantinos Daskalakis, Professor at MIT and Chief Scientist at ARCHIMEDES, delivered one of the keynote talks at ASF, titled "AI: The Next Frontier". Additionally, ARCHIMEDES organized a panel on "Artificial Intelligence for a Sustainable Future". The panel, featuring Prof. Evaggelia Pitoura (University of Ioannina & Archimedes), Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundouri (Athens University of Economics and Business, Head of Sustainable Development Unit/ATHENA), Prof. Emmanouil Pyrgiotakis (University of Essex), and Dr. Antonia Korre (Data & AI Manager, Accenture), explored the pivotal role of AI in creating a more eco-conscious and ethically sustainable world. The discussion focused on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability, highlighting synergies such as AI enabling a green future and the importance of reducing computational resources while upholding ethical standards. Vasiliki Founta, Director of Strategic Planning, Archimedes facilitated the discussion.
