Title: Quantum Computing with Silicon Spin Qubits

Speaker: Prof. Elena Blokhina (University College Dublin, Ireland)

Abstract: The talk will explore technologies for silicon spin qubits and their potential for quantum computing, highlighting the underlying materials and the techniques used to achieve precise control of spin states, enabling high-fidelity quantum gate operations. It will start with an overview of silicon-based platforms, discussing how material properties and fabrication approaches impact qubit performance. Methods for implementing spin control with magnetic and electric field manipulation to induce interaction and entanglement will be introduced. Strategies for scaling up to larger systems with high connectivity for future applications will also be outlined, including AI for quantum calibration. The second part of the talk will focus on examples of qubit devices, presenting our recent results. The operation of quantum gates will be explained, demonstrating quantum circuits and quantum ML methods that have been implemented on this platform. Finally, prospects and next steps toward building higher-temperature and scalable silicon spin qubit architectures will be discussed.

Short Biography: Elena Blokhina received the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR, equivalent to DSc) in electronic engineering from UPMC Sorbonne Universités, the PhD in physical and mathematical sciences, and the MSc with highest honours in physics from Saratov State University. She has been with University College Dublin, Ireland and Equal1 Laboratories Ireland (Chief Scientific Officer). She is a member of the Steering Committee of the UCD Centre for Quantum Engineering, Science, and Technology (CQuEST) and a member of the National Advisory Forum for Quantum Technologies in Ireland. Prof Blokhina is the past Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Quantum Information Systems and Applications Committee of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society. She was elected to the Board of Governors of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society for the terms 2013–2015 and 2016–2018. She served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I (2016–2017), IEEE Access (2017), and other journals, and as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE TCAS-I (2018–2021). Her research interests include microelectronic systems, semiconductor devices, quantum computing, quantum dots, and semiconductor qubits.
